Study  on Sustainability of Village Institutions  Promoted by  NGOs  in  Natural  Resources  Management  & Sustainable  Livelihoods

Supported by AKRSP(I) and the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT)

  • Case study on the village institution - Gram Vikas Mandal promoted by AKRSP, Gram Vikas Kosh promoted by Seva Mandir in Rajasthan and the different village institutions promoted by Foundation for Ecological Security (FES) in Rajasthan have been completed

  • Report of the study on village institution promoted by AKRSP has been published. Available in print and posted on the web. (Use documents for download link)

  • Studies completed in 17 villages - Gujarat and Rajasthan

  • Further studies in Gujarat, Jharkhand and Karnataka are in progress

  • Review workshop - Scheduled on 9th May 2008

The Phase I of the project is progressing well. The project covers 5 coastal villages of Mandvi District in Kutch, Gujarat. Community enterprises have started functioning. Work in progress on wise management and conservation of the fishery resources. - Status July 2007


The work in Mandvi is spearheaded by the Yusuf Meherally Centre (YMC) with its headquarters at Bombay and a regional office in Munda, Kutch, Gujarat.
